Analyst Tabs Javon Bullard As Favorite Green Bay Packers Pick
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

In the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, No. 58 overall, the Green Bay Packers selected Georgia safety Javon Bullard. It was a great selection by the team, as Bullard not only fills a need on the roster but presented excellent value with where he was selected as well.

Over at PFF, analyst Trevor Sikkema really liked the selection of Bullard for the Packers. He selected the Georgia product as his favorite selection in the 2024 NFL Draft out of all the picks Green Bay made.

“Bullard was one of my favorite players in the class, so I had a feeling I would like wherever he ended up. But in Green Bay, he can maximize his versatility. Jaire Alexander is a stud cornerback who can really lock down receivers in the slot, but now so can Bullard. Getting Bullard in the mix as a slot defender can free up Alexander to shadow the opposing team’s best receiver, depending on what the matchup is that week,” Sikkema wrote.

Having the potential to use Jaire Alexander to shadow the opposing team’s best wide receiver could help take this defense to another level. An elite coverage corner, moving Alexander around will help compensate for the perceived weakness opposite him, as the job on the other boundary is currently up for grabs.

The Green Bay Packers made it a point to upgrade at the safety position this offseason. It has been a weakness for the last few seasons, but that is going to change starting in 2024. Along with Javon Bullard, the team selected two more safeties; Evan Williams out of Oregon and Kitan Oladapo out of Oregon State.

All three possess different strengths, which make them ideal pairings alongside free agent signing Xavier McKinney. McKinney is locked into a starting spot and provides defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley with some flexibility given his ability to play several different roles.

Javon Bullard should see the field early and often as well. He is a great complement to McKinney, as what was once a weakness could certainly turn into a strength for the Green Bay Packers moving forward.
