Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has given an important update on the fitness of key players Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw as the FA Cup final against Manchester City approaches. With just one Premier League match remaining before the crucial cup final, the Red Devils’ fitness of these players is a significant concern.

Manchester United still has to face Brighton in their last Premier League game of the season before they can fully focus on the FA Cup final. Speaking to the media, Ten Hag revealed that Maguire and Shaw will miss the Brighton game. However, they hope they can be fit for the Wembley trip.

“For England, I can’t say, it’s not up to me. But for the cup final, we’re working on [it],” Ten Hag explained when asked about the players’ chances of making Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024. “I think Harry Maguire, I think it’s a fair chance that he will be available. We plan [for] him. Luke is more complicated. In this moment, let’s say it’s a less chance that he will make it. But there is still a very small, reduced chance. He had a setback; now we have to find out how far [from a return] he is.”

Manchester United’s Injury Challenges This Season

Manchester United has faced numerous injuries this season, particularly in defense. Key players like Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, and Luke Shaw have all missed significant portions of the campaign. These injuries have disrupted the team’s consistency and have been a major challenge for Ten Hag in his first season as manager.

These injuries have been felt throughout the season, affecting Manchester United’s performance in various competitions. The upcoming FA Cup final is crucial, and the pressure is on Ten Hag to deliver a positive result. The outcome of this match could be pivotal for his tenure at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag’s side will face Brighton at the Amex Stadium on May 19 for their final Premier League match. This game is important for maintaining form and building momentum ahead of the Manchester Derby in the FA Cup final on May 25.

Despite the challenges, there is optimism surrounding Maguire’s potential return. Having the experienced defender back could boost United’s defense against a strong Manchester City side. On the other hand, Shaw’s situation appears more uncertain. His setback means his chances of featuring in the final are slim, though only partially ruled out.

The FA Cup final represents a significant opportunity for Manchester United to secure silverware this season. Winning the cup would bring a trophy back to Old Trafford and strengthen Ten Hag’s position as manager. It would be a positive end to a season filled with ups and downs, particularly regarding the team’s injury woes.

As Manchester United prepares for their final Premier League game against Brighton, Ten Hag’s strategy will likely focus on managing his squad’s fitness and ensuring key players are ready for the final. The match against Brighton will be crucial to finalizing the team’s tactics and lineup for the FA Cup showdown.

With hopes high for Maguire’s availability for the FA Cup final against Manchester City, Shaw’s return remains uncertain due to his recent setback. As Manchester United prepares for their final Premier League game against Brighton, the focus will soon shift entirely to Wembley, where Ten Hag’s men aim to secure a crucial victory and lift the FA Cup.
